THE ULTIMATE GUIDE FOR CREATING (YOUR OWN) VIDEO CONTENT
(For business)
As video becomes more common for small and medium sized businesses, we are finding a lot of companies wanting to create their own videos internally. This is called User Generated Content (or UGC) in the industry and there are a few good reasons companies shoot their own content: limited resources like cash, extra resources like a salaried team, sensitive material, or simply because you want to grow your internal capacity for video! We’ve seen it all and want to give you some general pointers for doing it right the first time. We also have some options for collaborating so that you can have professional graphics and a polished video with your UGC.
3 Options for making business videos
Obviously there are many more than 3 options for creating your own videos, but we have outlined the 3 most common we see with small to medium business today and have organized them from lowest to highest price points with ideas to consider for each.
UGC - User Generated Content - you are making the videos yourself, but this doesn’t necessarily mean you have to do it alone! We have created this helpful DIY video guide for anyone who wants/needs to create content internally and we also work with clients who want help with strategy and production. We use a proprietary software so we can capture remotely from your iphone or webcam and have a Production Director actually monitor the audio and control the camera settings! Take a look at our unlimited UGC video subscription starting at $799/mo here.
Freelance Video Production - These are typically one-man-bands, and often-times new in the industry. Be sure to do your research and save yourself some headaches down the road.
Pro: They are usually less expensive upfront. Flexible, quick and nimble. Often ready to tackle any challenge.
Con: Often end up paying more in the long run with reshoots, lower quality content, and a weaker overall strategy.
Full Video Production Team - Hiring a production team can cost more upfront, but it can deliver dividends in less than a years time. We utilize something we call a PRODUCTION SPRINT, which is a well-planned and executed production period where we try to capture as much value for our client in a limited amount of time. For one of our health care clients, we captured a year’s worth of social media content in only 3 days.
Pro: Professional quality ensures it is done right the first time. This will often include a strategy for your video assets including distribution and other completmentary assets.
